Physical Education Instructor/Coach
Mr. Kenworthy is a proud graduate of Lynbrook High School and thoroughly enjoys teaching and coaching at his alma mater. Coach K. earned his Bachelor's Degree in Physical Education from U.C. Berkeley and a Master's Degree in Educational Administration from San Jose State University. As a student-athlete at Lynbrook, Coach Kenworthy served as the Senior Class Vice President; earned varsity letters in football, basketball, and baseball; and was selected as Lynbrook's "Senior Scholar-Athlete of the Year." In basketball Coach Kenworthy was a three-year varsity starter, and in his senior year he led our Vikings to their first-ever Varsity Basketball League Championship and a 3rd place finish in the CCS Playoffs- the team's highest finish ever. Coach Kenworthy was honored as the league's Most Valuable Player; was a First Team All-Central Coast Section pick by the San Jose Mercury News; and honored as one of the top 50 players in the State. Recruited by a number of universities, Coach Kenworthy a full athletic scholarship to UC Berkeley where he played both basketball and baseball for the University of California Golden Bears.
Coach Kenworthy has been teaching Physical Education and coaching high school and collegiate sports for over 30 years. He has taught numerous physical education classes and has coached 10 different men's and women's sports at the high school, community college, and Div. 1 collegiate levels. He has had a very successful coaching career having coached a number of championship and state-ranked teams, three Olympians, and a number of athletes who went on to excel at the collegiate level. Under Coach Kenworthy's guidance our Varsity Boy's Basketball Program experienced considerable success, winning two league championships and earning five consecutive trips to the CCS Playoffs in his last five years as our Head Coach. Coach Kenworthy's back-to-back championship teams in the 2009 and 2010 seasons compiled two of the finest seasons in the school's history, with 20-8 and 24-5 records respectively. The 2010 team with an overall record of 24-5 equaled the best record in school's history- originally set by the Vikings first championship team that Coach Kenworthy played on in 1972.
Along with teaching Physical Education and coaching a variety of sports, Coach Kenworthy enjoys international travel, cultural photography, and outdoor sports and activities that include backpacking, biking, snow skiing, swimming, and scuba diving. An avid traveler, Coach K. has traveled to 78 countries on six continents, which includes considerable adventures through countries in Europe, Africa, South America, Indonesia, and Asia. Some of the highlights of his travels have been trekking to the Everest Base Camp in Nepal; taking trains and buses 10,000 miles throughout China; hitch-hiking around Japan's four major islands; hiking the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu in Peru; sailing through the Galapagos Islands off the coast of Ecuador; exploring the Amazon and Nile Rivers in Brazil and Egypt; and making his own photographic safaris in Africa.
In addition to these adventures, Coach Kenworthy has served as a guest lecturer, coach, and Physical Education and Athletics Consultant for international schools abroad; has led student and athletic teams on overseas trips; and continues to be actively involved in youth sports.
