We are aware you may have heard recent reports in the media about incidents involving serious racist and misogynistic speech on social media that occurred during this last school year at Monta Vista High School. While we are not at liberty to provide specific details about this incident due to pending litigation and the privacy rights of those students involved, we do want to emphasize that this conduct goes against everything that is at the core of our beliefs as a school and district. We do not tolerate hate, harassment or bullying, and anytime there is a threat to the safety of our students we take it seriously. Please read the attached letter from Superintendent Polly Bove for more information regarding these incidents.

The FUHSD Board approved the recommendations of the Citizens Advisory Committee to help temporarily address declining enrollment at Lynbrook. The approved plan includes the following:

  • All 8th Graders attending Miller Middle School and McAuliffe School who reside in the FUHSD attendance area, but not within the Lynbrook attendance area, have the option to choose to attend Lynbrook for high school.
  • All 8th Graders who reside in the Hyde Middle School attendance area, as that attendance area is defined as of November 1, 2016, have the option to apply to attend Lynbrook for high school. If there are more Hyde Middle School applicants than available slots at Lynbrook, a lottery system will be used to determine which Hyde Middle School students will be accepted at Lynbrook.

In preparations for Halloween, please take a moment to read the following policies about costumes:

Lynbrook High School encourages students to wear school-appropriate costumes for Halloween on October 31st.  Be creative and have fun--but stay within the following guidelines.

  • Costumes must not include any reference to drugs, alcohol or violence.
  • No fake weapons should be part of the outfit.
  • Costumes should provide sufficient coverage.  Overtly "sexy" costumes are not appropriate for school.
  • Finally, costumes should not use stereotypes of one's own or another culture to create a look.

Furthermore, no one on campus will be allowed to wear costumes in the style of a “creepy clown,” even in a satirical manner, as it may be perceived by others familiar with this recent phenomenon to be menacing or threatening in nature. In addition no one will be allowed to wear any costumes that cover faces or masks their identities: no masks, face covering, or face paint.

Thank you for your cooperation.  See Mr. Wong or Mr. Ramirez if you have questions.
