Junior Guidance Night for Students and Parents/Guardians is scheduled for Tuesday, November 14, 2017. The event begins promptly at 6:45 pm in the auditorium with a large group opening, with sessions that follow. Families may choose to attend two of the following sessions:

-- Exploring Options Beyond High School—understanding what choices students have from following high school

-- Community College Options: Understanding different degree and transfer options and how to take colleges classes while still in high school

-- California State University (CSU) Admissions: understand what the CSU campuses have to offer and information on what impaction means for you

-- University of California (UC) Admissions: Highlights from across the 9 UC campuses, what admission officers look for

-- The College Admissions Game—What selective colleges look for on an application.

The 2018 Most Valuable Student scholarship contest is open to any high school senior who is a US Citizen. Applicants will be judged on scholarship, leadership, and financial need. The 2018 MVS application deadline is November 27, 2017.

 

The 20 top finalists will participate in an all expenses paid Leadership Weekend in Chicago during which they’ll interview with the national judges. These 20 finalists will be vying for two first-place awards of $50,000; two second-place awards of $40,000; and two third-place awards of $30,000. The remaining 14 finalists will receive awards of $20,000. The 480 runners-up will receive fifth-place scholarships of $4,000.

The Guidance Counselors will be available on Wednesday, September 20th from 8:00 - 9:00 am in Lab 076 (flex lab) to provide college application and Family Connection support. Seniors do not need to sign-up, simply show up and work on any college application. Counselors can provide assistance with everything from creating and account and starting an application, to help with a specific troublesome question on the application, or a full application review. Upcoming dates include October 25 and November 8.

'Tis the season for college information.  Be sure to check the LHS Guidance and College& Career websites for up-to-date information.

 

Tuesday, April 25th, Lynbrook is proud to host representatives from UCLA, University of the Pacific, Santa Clara University, and the Art Academy of San Francisco for a Special Topics in College Admissions Night. The event begins at 7:00 pm in the LHS Auditorium.

 

On Thursday, May 4, Mission College will host a large College Fair with over 100 college representatives attending to provide information and answer your questions. Brown University, Columbia University, Cornell University, Rice University, and the University of Chicago will be hosting a joint information session in San Jose on May 21. Students and their families will learn more about the selective admissions process, scholarships and financial aid, academic programs, and campus life. Admission Officers from five top institutions will are doing a group presentation in your area for students and their families, including Emory, Johns Hopkins, and Washington University in St. Louis. Junior students interested in learning more about business are encouraged to apply to a free 3-day workshop sponsored by the Saratoga Rotary. The ELC program looks for students who would benefit from this hands on experience on implementing a business idea and some mentoring from local business executives. Application deadline is Dec. 23.
