On This Day In History:  1848 – The Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, ending the Mexican War, was signed.  In the treaty, Mexico ceded to the United States a huge portion of what is today the American West and Southwest, including California and New Mexico.

AP Exams:  Registration and payment for all AP exams begins in the ASB office TODAY and will continue until Friday, February 27th.  Priority registration starts today for the AP Chinese Exam for students enrolled in AP Chinese or any senior.  For detailed information, check the Lynbrook website or look on bulletins posted around the school.  Please bring your Student ID card and a check made payable to FUHSD to the ASB Office during brunch or lunch.  One check may be written for multiple exams.  /D. Edge SAT Prep Class:  Taking the SAT or PSAT?  Make sure you’re ready!  The PTSA is partnering with The Edge to offer their SAT prep class beginning on February 4th.  Visit edgeeducational.com or pick up a flyer in the main office for more information.  /P. Pandya

 

Chinese Placement Test:  This year’s Chinese Placement test will be administered on Wednesday, March 18 and Thursday, March 19, 2015.  These are the ONLY dates available to take the test.  Please plan accordingly.  Registration is now open.  Go to the front page of the website to find the link to register online.  Registration closes when spaces are filled to capacity or on Friday, March 6, 2015 at 3:00pm, whichever comes first.  All incoming 9th graders and current 10th graders MUST complete the Residency Verification process to be allowed into the placement test.  /D. Health Occupations Students of America - ER Nursing Speaker Event:  Are you interested in learning about careers in the health field?  Come out to HOSA’s meeting on Tuesday, February 10th at lunch in room 210.  The director of critical care, ER and perioperative nursing from Santa Clara Valley Regional Medical Center will talk about her experiences and careers in the hospital.  /T. APUSH Diagnostic:  Sophomores, the APUSH diagnostic will be administered on Wednesday, February 11th at 7:30 SHARP in the cafeteria.  Please bring a #2 pencil and eraser to the test.  Sign up using the form on the front page of the LHS website.  The last day to sign up for the APUSH diagnostic is Friday, February 6th.  Please direct questions to Mr. Howden at kyle_howden@fuhsd.org.  /K. COLLEGE/VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES:

COSMOS Information Session:  There will be a COSMOS Information Session on Tuesday, February 3rd, during tutorial in the auditorium.  COSMOS is a summer STEM program that is held on some UC campuses for four weeks in the summer.  The application process is competitive, so if you have any questions, please attend this information session presented by the Director of the UCSC program.  /B. STTAR Tutoring:  Hey seniors!  Are you relieved to finally have applications over with?  Do you have more time on your hands for 2nd semester?  Now is a great time to give back to your peers!  Join STTAR and tutor someone who would really value it!  WE NEED YOU!  Remember, these hours can be used towards receiving the Board of Trustees Award!  Sophomores and juniors, we need you too!  See Ms. Chae in room 207 for more info.  /M. Friends of the Library Book Sale Volunteers Needed:  Volunteers are needed for the Friends of the Library Book Sale on Friday, February 6th through Sunday, February 8th.  The book sale will be at the West Valley Library Community Room.  Three hour shifts are available and you take home a free book for every hour worked!  Please contact Trixie Johnson at trixiej@comcast.net to volunteer.  /C. JV Girls Soccer:  The Lynbrook JV Girls Soccer team won a hard fought battle against Gunn High School on Thursday night with a 4 to 1 victory.  Zahra Attarwala scored 4 goals with assists from Sierra Chen, Agrima Sharma and Juney Lee.  Congratulations, ladies!  /A. Zimmerman

 

Badminton Preseason Meeting:  There will be a required pre-season meeting for all students interested in playing on the Badminton Team this year.  The meeting will be on Wednesday, February 4th from 4:00-5:30pm in room 72.  Please bring a pen and your planner with you.  /K. Christensen

 

Varsity Boys Golf:  Tryouts for the Viking Boys Varsity Golf team will start today at Pruneridge Golf Course driving range at 6:00pm.  All interested golfers should have their athletic forms completed before trying out.  For additional information, contact the athletic directors for Coach Art’s contact information.  /A.
