Lynbrook High School  | November 2017

Dear Lynbrook Community,

Homecoming was a wonderful celebration of Viking Pride. If you get a chance, visit the online photos to see the intricate backdrops, creative decorations, carefully choreographed dances, and all of the smiles. These are the experiences students cherish for a lifetime.

Students are in the final grading period of the semester. Because there is no school on Friday, November 10 for Veteran’s Day, progress grade reports will be posted in Infinite Campus on Monday, November 13, 2017, at 3:00 PM.

Teachers and staff members all across the district are working to finalize a new bell schedule for the 2018-19 school year. School will start and end later for students.  There will be three tutorials every week. Look for an email with details in December.

This newsletter is packed with news and events. Make time to come to campus to see the students in action. Lynbrook High School is a busy, vibrant, exciting place to be!

Outstanding Athletes, Scholars, and People
CONGRATULATIONS to Girls' Golf, Boys' Water Polo, Girls' Volleyball and Field Hockey for making it into CCS Playoffs!

Our varsity field hockey team won their first playoff game against Christopher High School, from Gilroy, but the season ended when they lost to St. Francis. Our girls’ volleyball team, had a record strong enough to get a bye for the first round of playoffs, but then lost to Aragon High School in a tough match on Saturday, November 4, 2017. After a fine season, Boys’ water polo fell to Leland on Saturday, November 4th, at 7:00 PM.  Also moving on was our girls’ golf team. They qualified to play at Laguna Seca Golf Ranch on Halloween in the CCS League Tournament.

I want to take a moment to recognize the rest of our fall sports teams for their commitment to sportsmanship and for being shining examples of what it means to be a Viking: Cross Country, Football, Girls Tennis and Girls Water Polo.

Three of our fall sports teams were honored with the 2017-2018 Fall Season Scholastic Championship Team Awards. Among the Top Five 2017-2018 Fall Scholastic Championship Teams are Lynbrook's Boys Cross Country (3.8462), Field Hockey (3.7778), and Girls Tennis (3.8171).The student-athletes involved have achieved distinction in the classroom, and at the same time, have committed themselves to participate in interscholastic athletics.

Marching Band & Colorguard Second Place in Bands of America
The Lynbrook Marching Viking Band and Colorguard placed 2nd overall in the Bands of America NorCal regional championship. The field was comprised of 18 bands coming from 4 different states (CA, NV, WA, OR).  The team made history with Lynbrook's highest BOA placement ever, beating out powerhouses Homestead, Saratoga, Clovis West, and a number of other high school bands.

The Fremont Union High School District (FUHSD) is conducting an important  Parent Engagement Survey to gather feedback on your experiences as families in FUHSD.

  • Research shows that parent engagement with their children's education is critical to student success.
  • FUHSD wants to ensure that parents have the knowledge and tools needed to be successful supporters of their students.

The survey should take approximately 15 minutes to complete.
Your responses will remain completely anonymous.

Something to Think About

Anxiety Is Taking A Toll On Teens, Their Families And Schools

Anxiety is increasingly becoming a serious issue for American teens. Sixty-two percent of incoming freshman surveyed by the American College Health Association said they'd experienced overwhelming anxiety the year before, up from 50-percent in 2011. High school counselors and parents are increasingly aware of the problem, especially when teens are so anxious they don't want to go to school.
