Freshmen Square Dancing Competition

Physical Education

PE 9 or PE 9 Marching Band

PE 9 (10 credits)

College Eligibility: none

Recommended coursework: None

A basic course required of all freshmen, which includes instruction in beginning and intermediate skills, basic rules, history and etiquette in a variety of sports. To complete the program, a student must complete the objectives of an activity in each of the following areas: Individual—an activity in which the student performs without the need of another person; Dual—an activity in which a student competes against another student; Team—an activity in which a group of students compete against another group of students; Rhythmic—an activity in which movement is coordinated with music or a rhythmic beat; Aquatic—an activity which covers the basic skills of swimming; Wellness—fundamentals of good health practices are incorporated in activities.

 

PE 9 Band (10 credits)

Recommended coursework: Approval of Music and PE Department heads

This is a basic twelve-week course, offered first semester only, for students who participate in the school marching band. After marching season, 9th grade students join a regular PE class.

The PE 10-12 program is designed for students interested in a variety of physical education activities.  Emphasis is placed on refining basic skills and participation. Activities offered may include:  aquatics, basketball, badminton, body development, flag football, game management, golf, lacrosse, pickleball, soccer, softball, tennis, track, ultimate Frisbee, volleyball, and weight training.

PE Racquet Sports

PE Racquet Sports (10 credits)
Grade level: 10-12
Recommended background: PE 9
College eligibility: does not meet A-G requirements

This course is designed for students interested in developing skills in the various racquet sports:  badminton, pickle ball, ping pong, and tennis. Emphasis is placed on skill development, strategy, and competitive doubles and singles play.  In addition, students will have the opportunity to appreciate and enjoy these sports as lifelong activities.

PE Weight Training

PE Weight Training (10 credits)
Grade level: 10-12
Recommended background: PE 9
College Eligibility: Does not meet A-G requirements

This course is designed for those students interested in enhancing muscular strength, muscular endurance, and body toning.  Also, students will engage in weight lifting and exercises to improve flexibility and cardiovascular fitness.  Students will utilize free weights, weight machines, and various training accessories including jump ropes, medicine balls, and flex bands.

PE Basketball

This course is designed for those students interested in developing skills in basketball.  Emphasis is placed on refining skills, understanding the rules and strategies, and team playing.

PE Total Fitness

PE Total Fitness (10 Credits)

This course is designed for students interested in developing and enhancing their individual fitness levels.  Students will be assessed primarily on their own personal fitness levels using heart rate monitors.  This course is set to prepare students for a life of fitness after high school.
